Description

A rare Mir watch produced by the Second Moscow Watch Factory. Its release was timed to coincide with the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students, held in Moscow in 1957. The watch features a unique case, dial, and hands. The dial depicts a dove — the symbol of peace. The festival lasted two weeks and became a significant, even explosive, event for Soviet young men and women. It was the largest festival of its kind in history and took place in the middle of Khrushchev’s Thaw. It is remembered for its atmosphere of freedom and openness: foreign visitors were able to communicate freely with Muscovites, and such contact was not persecuted.
