Chistopol Watch Factory
Volna
Description
This watch was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. Instead of the numerals 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, the dial features stylized cross-shaped ornaments based on the Kazakh national motif qoshqar müyiz — “ram’s horns” — arranged as symmetrical rosettes. In Kazakh culture, this classic pattern symbolizes prosperity, well-being, and the pastoral traditions of the ancestors. To mark the 40th anniversary of the republic, Soviet enterprises, including the Chistopol Watch Factory, received state orders to produce commemorative items decorated with national symbolism. Thematic watches with this “Kazakh” dial were produced in strictly limited quantities and were intended for presentation to Party officials, outstanding workers, and other distinguished recipients.
